JA+U recently sat down with Japanese architect Kumiko Inui, whose work is featured in the latest issue of Japan Architect. JA87 documents Ms. Inui’s career, spanning from small works she built early on, to recent large civic and educational commissions. She is probably best known outside her native Japan for a series of fashion boutiques she designed for the likes of Louis Vuitton and Dior. Her fashion facades are doubtlessly exquisite wrappers that exclaim the luxurious trappings on sale within these buildings. However, as Ms. Inui says in this video, she is happy her career is now affording her more opportunities to build architecture that fulfills her desire to serve society.
