Named by AnOther Magazine’s Cathy Edwards as one of the 6 most promising designers of 2010, London-based Shao Yen Chen is launching his own womenswear label, Shao Yen, and presenting his latest collection ‘Skin’ at On|Off, London Fashion Week S/S11.
Following the showcase at Central Saint Martins’ MA show during London Fashion Week A/W10 earlier this year, Shao Yen Chen’s new collection is featured in the static exhibition at On|Off, London Fashion Week’s largest independent show site. The latest ‘Skin’ collection is inspired by the human body and continues to explore the anatomical theme in his BA graduate collection ‘Body as Clothes’, which won him the prestigious Fashion Weekend/Le Vif Award in Brussels, 2009. Technically, ‘Skin’ shows continuous development from his MA collection ‘Waver’, as well as introducing leather and new techniques.
Shao Yen Chen has refined his design skills during his seven-year education at Central Saint Martins College and internships at Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan, and Claire Tough. His works show consistency in delivering delicate, sculptural pieces with innovative textiles. His previous collections were widely published in magazines such as POP, Wonderland, Wallpaper, Dazed Digital and AnOther Online.
